To Cur With Love

Director: Steven Dean Moore

Synopsis: When Santa’s Little Helper goes missing, Grampa reminisces about Homer’s dog Bongo.

Discussion: Yet another complete waste of time from The Simpsons. This episode was a 20 minute long story by Grampa about a dog named Bongo that Homer loved as a child. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very good story although it did have an ending, which is more than we can say for some other Grampa stories.

The Simpsons works best when it tugs at the heartstrings but even this tale of childhood dogs did not work. Somehow in the canon of time, right back to when Homer’s mother left them, there’s a dog that has, until now, never been mentioned. And the dog’s story isn’t very interesting. It bit Mr Burns, Mr Burns wanted it euthanised (by feeding it to his hounds) so Grampa took Bongo to a crazy lady who cared for it while Homer nursed a broken heart. Boo frigging hoo.

With a couple of minutes left to run, there’s a short at the end titled ‘Mr Burns explains the Fiscal Cliff’ which was equally uninteresting but a fitting end to the election-themed sequences in recently viewed episodes.

So far, season 24 has consistently had the most boring episodes of the entire series. Give this one a miss, along with every other ep thus far.
